Welcome to dc musicals
As a primary school teacher and director of a London Children’s Theatre Group, I am constantly amazed by the capabilities and talent of children! They learn scripts, songs and dances almost instantly - as long as the material is inspiring. Otherwise their attention quickly wonders! Therefore their involvement and reactions play a vital part during the composition process.
I begin writing a musical by carefully researching the subject or topic. Scripts must be informative and entertaining, with plenty of equally-distributed parts. Songs and dances should include a wide variety of musical styles and emotions - thought-provoking and humorous.
There is a great deal of fine-tuning right up until the first performance. Miraculously, young performers always rise to the occasion, but often at the 11th hour!
As teachers know, children are demanding and hungry for fresh material, keeping me busy writing new musicals! No sooner has the applause ended for one show than they are asking ‘What show are we doing next, Debbie?
