Welcome to dc musicals!
As a primary school teacher and director of Children’s Theatre, I have learnt never to underestimate the capabilities of children when it comes to singing, dancing and acting! They learn scripts and pick up songs and dances that appeal to them almost instantly. They’ll ask to perform a favourite song or musical time and time again. Fortunately, I have been able to use this to my advantage by involving them throughout the composition process, in which they play a vital part. I always test out my new material on them to see if it works. If they don’t enjoy and believe in what they are doing, their attention quickly wonders! After much fine-tuning, changes of lyrics or additions of a catchy beat, we’re finally ready to start rehearsing. But right up to the performance, music and lyrics are being tweaked and improved! And when it’s time for the performance, my young performers nearly always rise to the occasion - usually at the 11th hour! But they are also demanding and hungry for new material, and over the years this has kept me extremely busy! No sooner has the applause ended for one show than they are asking ‘What we are doing next, Debbie?
